CHOOSING A RUG

CHOOSING A RUG

When it comes to choosing a rug for my home, my mind goes round and round. How big should it be, what colours, do I match with my walls, my floors, my cabinets?? It always feels like such a hard decision; for me anyways.

I find rugs can be one of the most important pieces in home decor. It can be a statement or it can be something subtle & calm; but I find it always helps to pull a room together. But choosing the colours, the size, and style isn’t the hardest part. Sometimes just finding a place to shop can be even more difficult. With that in mind I wanted to share with you one my favourite shops. They are so easy to navigate, affordable and always have a unique one of a kind selection that you will for sure enjoy; Revival Rugs . I recently found this little shop while browsing and I fell in love! They have sooo many options, new modern handmade rugs to unique one-of-a-kind vintage rugs made 30-100 years ago!! All of them carefully curated by the owners themselves.

I have been searching for a rug for under my dining table for quite a while. Trying to find the perfect one to go with my eclectic style is hard because ( yes I know I have white walls. this should be easy right? NOPE) I have so many colours in and around those walls from my decor to my furniture. SO I grabbed a glass of vino and stared at my space, picking out which colours stand out & carry throughout my house. First off was the kitchen, It’s bold, with dark blue cabinets. Then there’s the subtle blue found in the prints hanging on my walls. Next were my terra cotta pots, third was of course WHITE… everywhere :p. So Low and behold, checking all boxes so carefully curated in my vino reflections, all the colours in a style consistent with some of my previous pieces… I found this vintage Turkish Stunner from Revival Rugs!!

I’m in love. ( SORRY STEVE )

Notice the blues, whites & rust in this rug, like we talked about? I am so in love with how it’s pulling in different areas around the house.

And one more little rug tip!

For under a dining table, I tend to make sure the size at least extend past the chairs while they are pushed in. This also helps keep the cost down as you are looking for a smaller size. This rug here is 5’7” x 8’, fitting perfectly. However, if you have the room to go bigger, go bigger. It is always nice for the rug to extend past your chairs, this helps stop the chair from getting caught on the edges.

The second rug that I found on Revival Rugs was a long runner, I originally wanted to place it in my basement as I have a great hallway spot for it, but as soon as I brought it into my house, the green undertones in it screamed master bedroom. So I HAD to keep it upstairs ( it was just too good! ). The size ended up fitting perfectly and tied in the green wall so beautifully. The floral pattern with deep purples added a bit of whimsical fun as well, I couldn’t be more happy! That’s the thing with rugs, they can speak to you differently once they are in your home. Rugs are truly one of the hardest but most fun pieces of decor I like playing with.
